The influencing factors of English language proficiency are an important foundation for the research and practice of the cultivation of key competencies of English learners in colleges and universities, which is of great theoretical and practical significance to the improvement of the quality of education and teaching and the quality of talent cultivation of task-based teaching English courses. The study selects the multiple linear regression analysis model as a means of big data analysis of the impact of task-based teaching method on students’ language proficiency improvement in college English teaching. Taking 960 students who practiced task-based teaching method in English majors of a university as the research object, the questionnaire scale of students’ English language proficiency and influencing factors was designed, and the questionnaires were distributed and collected. After verifying the correctness of the constructed model through Pearson’s test, multiple covariance, and normal distribution of residuals, the six independent variables parental education, learning resources, self-efficacy, learning anxiety, health status, and language attitude were verified to be positively correlated with the dependent variable, English language proficiency, through stepwise regression. The independent variables are ranked in descending order according to their influence: self-efficacy, learning anxiety, language attitude, learning resources, health condition, and parents’ education, with influence coefficients of 0.225, 0.216, 0.196, 0.177, 0.132, and 0.102, respectively. This study provides new ideas and methods for the reform of English language teaching in colleges and universities.
