A Systemic Dynamic Analysis between Higher Education Financial Aid Policies and the Strengthening of Chinese National Community Consciousness

When education is strong, the country is strong. Education plays a fundamental and strategic role in building a strong socialist modernization country in a comprehensive manner, and it is necessary to accelerate the construction of a strong education country [1-2]. In the new era of ten years, China’s student financial aid work has also made unprecedented achievements, the financial aid system is also constantly improving, the financial aid efforts continue to increase, the financial aid situation has been greatly improved, forming a student financial aid policy system with Chinese characteristics that covers “all school segments, all schools, all students from economically disadvantaged families” [3-6]. For the promotion of educational equity, help to win the battle against poverty and build a strong human resources country laid a solid foundation [7].
For deeply impoverished families, education is the most effective way to get rid of poverty and an important way to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty. Subsidized education can help children of deeply impoverished families to solve the problem of education funding, enter the school to receive education, and improve the family’s quality of life through the power of knowledge [8-10]. As for the families who have just come into the state of subsistence life, their self-development ability is not enough, and the material life foundation for realizing poverty alleviation is not strong enough. Educators should form a benign development mechanism of “relief - nurturing - success - feedback” through the financial support for their children to ensure that poverty alleviation will not return to poverty and revitalization will not fall behind [11-13]. At the same time, under the perspective of red culture, the target of financial aid and human resources can feel that hard struggle is the spiritual gene of the Chinese nation’s self-improvement, and further strengthen the sense of national community of the poor students in mainland ethnic colleges and universities [14-15]. For ethnic minority college students who study far away from their hometowns, with poor educational foundation and immature mind, how to correctly cultivate the identity of the nation and the country, and promote the virtuous cycle of “relief - education - success - return” is the primary task of educators in the new era. This is the primary task of educators in the new era [16-18].The applicant should take this as an entry point to integrate the red culture into the financial support and education work of mainland ethnic colleges and universities, so as to achieve the two-pronged approach of “educating” and “helping”, and to lead the mainland ethnic minority poor college students to build a solid copper wall of national unity and national unity [19-20].
The purpose of this paper is to explore the dynamic mechanism of college financial aid policy to promote the strengthening of Chinese national community consciousness, and to provide reference for the improvement of college financial aid policy and consolidation of Chinese national community. A system dynamics model is constructed based on the flow rate basic entry tree (RIT) to reveal the paths and feedback mechanisms of college financial aid and value guidance to promote the strengthening of Chinese national community consciousness. To verify the validity of the constructed model and explore the specific content of the power mechanism, this paper examines and simulates the constructed system dynamics model.
System dynamics (SD) is a theoretical approach to analyze and reveal the influence of structural behavior on functional characteristics of higher-order nonlinear complex systems by creating a model with feedback structure and simulation control characteristics for dynamic simulation experiments [21].
The SD model’s feedback decision mechanism is depicted in Fig. 1, which is based on the theory of “differential approximation of function increment” and utilizes multiple feedback arithmetic operations to approximate the higher-order nonlinear functions, thus classifying the system components into four types: flow level variables, flow rate variables, and auxiliary and exogenous variables [22]. The flow level is the cumulative quantity of the flow rate and is controlled by the flow rate. Flow rate is the result of integrating the effects of flow level variables and auxiliary variables using a feedback control mechanism, which can be divided into inflow rate and outflow rate. Auxiliary variables are intermediate variables of flow level variables, which are exogenous variables that affect flow rate variables.

Feedback decision mechanism of SD model
The creation process of the SD model is shown in Figure 2. According to Fig. 2, it can be seen that the SD model contains five components such as causality diagram, SD flow diagram, complex characteristics (number of feedback loops and order of each feedback loop), computable series of equations and simulation program.

Process for creating an SD model
The causality diagram is used to describe the causality of the interactions between system components, which is an abstraction and generalization of the causality relationships. The SD flow diagram not only describes the causality relationships, but also describes the characteristics of the components and the feedback decision-making mechanism, and its graphical elements include the graphical elements of the causality diagram and the graphical elements of the feedback decision-making mechanism. The simulation program is a purely functional SD mathematical model for describing the quantitative relationship between the interactions of system constituents and the law of the constituent elements over time, which is a quantization of the causal action relationship.
In this paper, the SD model creation method based on the flow rate basic entry tree (RIT) is used to analyze the system dynamics between the college financial aid policy and the strengthening of Chinese national community consciousness [23]. The RIT SD model creation and its application architecture are shown in Figure 3. The SD model constructed by this method contains five components such as flow rate counting tree RIT (including LRX), complex characteristics, SD flow diagram, computable series equations and simulation program.

When RIT performs embedding operations, it cannot merge the nodes of non-repeating auxiliary variables, and the strong simplification transformation solves this problem well. Strongly simplified transformation is built on the basis of RIT components, and its process includes deleting non-duplicated auxiliary variables and environment variables, and then connecting the undeleted flow position, flow rate and duplicated auxiliary variables according to the connection direction of the original RIT in the direction of the directional path, thus obtaining a strongly simplified RIT. In system dynamics, the solution analysis of feedback loop is of great significance for system evaluation and debugging model, etc. Currently, common methods of feedback loop calculation include graphical calculation method and branch-vector determinant method. Based on the previous theoretical research and the opinions collected from the expert interviews, this study has established a RIT SD model of college financial aid policy to promote the strengthening of the sense of community of the Chinese nation as shown in Figure 4. The modeling process includes the following steps:
1) Determine the boundaries of the system and exclude the factors that have little to do with the research problem. 2) Define the relevant factors within the system as a number of variables that accurately describe the specific influencing factors. 3) Determine the causal relationship between the variables. 4) Selecting the total amount of college funding and the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness as level variables, the amount of change in college funding and the degree of enhancement of Chinese national community consciousness as rate variables, and other variables as auxiliary variables. 5) The RIT SD model was established based on the causal relationship between the variables. In the model, the financial support policies of universities for students are divided into economic support and value guidance, and the economic support is subdivided into the forms of scholarships, tuition fee exemption, and work-study assistance, etc. The two types of financial support affect the students’ academic completion from the material level and the spiritual level, respectively, which in turn affects the students’ sense of identification with the Chinese nation and their sense of belonging, and contributes to the enhancement of the sense of the community of the Chinese nation, and ultimately influences the students’ academic completion and their sense of belonging. The final impact on students’ academic completion and university financial aid policies, forming a feedback loop. RIT-SD model for university funding policy

In the model of Figure 4, universities provide direct financial support to students to ensure that they can complete their studies and promote the strengthening of students’ sense of national community in China. Therefore, the mechanism of strengthening the sense of Chinese national community is as follows: the total amount of financial aid from colleges and universities → economic aid → grants → students’ completion of studies → strengthening the sense of Chinese national community. That is to say, the financial aid used by colleges and universities for economic assistance can reduce the economic pressure on students to complete their studies, realize normal graduation, and promote the enhancement of the consciousness of the Chinese national community, including the students’ sense of identity and sense of belonging to the Chinese national community. On the other hand, the indirect financial assistance provided by colleges and universities to students (e.g. tuition fee remission, work-study assistance, etc.) also promotes the enhancement of students’ sense of Chinese national community. This mechanism can be expressed as follows: the total amount of financial support from colleges and universities → indirect financial support → tuition fee exemption → students’ academic completion → strengthening of the sense of Chinese national community.
The value guidance in the financial aid policy of colleges and universities realizes the ideological and political education in students’ studies from the spiritual level, so as to enhance the students’ sense of identity and sense of belonging to the Chinese national community, i.e., the sense of the Chinese national community is strengthened. The specific mechanism is as follows: the total amount of college financial aid → value guidance → correct three views → ideological and political education → completion of students’ studies → strengthening of the sense of Chinese national community. In the college financial aid policy, with the increase of value guidance work, the correct worldview, life view and value of students can be established, the goal of ideological and political education can be realized, and the strength of the Chinese national community consciousness is thus increased.
In addition to the above direct mechanism of the college financial aid policy on the enhancement of the Chinese national community consciousness, there is also a feedback loop mechanism for the enhancement of the Chinese national community consciousness. The mechanism is described as follows:
(1) Total amount of financial aid for colleges and universities → financial support → grants → completion of studies → strengthening of the sense of community of the Chinese nation. (2) The total amount of financial aid in universities→economic support→tuition fee remission→completion of studies→strengthening of the sense of Chinese national community. (3) Total amount of financial support from universities → value guidance → correct three views → ideological and political education → academic completion → strengthening of the sense of Chinese national community. (4) Completion of students’ studies → sense of identity and belonging to the Chinese nation → strengthening of the sense of Chinese national community → intensity of the sense of Chinese national community → degree of achievement of financial aid objectives → feedback on financial aid → change in the amount of financial aid for colleges and universities → total amount of financial aid for colleges and universities. (5) Sense of identity and belonging to the Chinese nation → Strengthening of the sense of community of the Chinese nation → Strength of the sense of community of the Chinese nation → Achievement of financial aid goals → Feedback on financial aid → Completion of students’ studies.
In the above circular mechanism includes the following 3 steps:
(1) Financial support from universities (including financial support and value guidance) influences the completion of students’ studies, which in turn influences students’ sense of identity and belonging to the Chinese nation. (2) Students form a sense of community of the Chinese nation represented by the sense of identity and belonging to the Chinese nation through the completion of their studies, which promotes the achievement of the goal of financial support from universities and increases the feedback results of financial support. (3) The increase of financial aid feedback outcomes further affects students’ academic completion in two ways: directly strengthening the sense of Chinese national community. The increase of financial aid feedback results accompanies the increase of the total amount of financial aid in universities, which in turn promotes the strengthening of the sense of Chinese national community.
All system dynamics models need to be tested after construction to ensure their validity. In this paper, a variety of tests are used to ensure the reliability of the constructed RIT-based system dynamics model.
1) System boundary test. Before determining the system boundary, this paper has reviewed many literatures and materials on national community consciousness, screened the evaluation indexes of Chinese national community consciousness in different dimensions, so as to preliminarily determine the model boundary and construct the system dynamics model. And by comparing the indicators of the research related to the strength of Chinese national community consciousness, it is determined that the variables selected in the paper are the important variables of the system of strengthening Chinese national community consciousness. Additionally, the influence path of the system model is clearly stated, indicating that there is no need to expand the model boundary further. Furthermore, the model boundary defined in this paper is reasonable.
2) Measurement consistency and integration error test. This paper utilizes the function of checking the consistency of the model outline provided by the software Vensim PLE to check the outline of the 14 variables in the constructed model, and after modification and adjustment, the word “Model is OK” finally appears, indicating that the outline is consistent. The length of the step interval in the model is very important for the display of the simulation curve, the interval is too long or too short will make the simulation curve produce abnormalities, and the purpose of the integral error test is to analyze whether the step interval in the model is set reasonably. In the RIT SD model constructed in this paper, the time span is set to 2018-2030, a total of 12 years, the time interval is set to 1 year, the initial intensity is set to 0, and the students of A university are used as the experimental subjects of the model test, and the simulation results of the strength of the Chinese national community consciousness are shown in Fig. 5, and the simulation curves are relatively smooth, and there is no need to modify the time interval of the model.

3) Extreme case test. Extreme case test is generally a randomly selected rate variable, respectively, take two extreme values of 0 and 1, observe the change of the curve, if the change is obvious, and the trend of change and the actual situation is less deviation, then the model is effective. The results of the extreme case test of this paper’s model are shown in Figure 6, and the graphical characteristics are in line with the above requirements, indicating that this paper constructs the RIT SD model effectively and is able to reflect in any situation.

4) Historical test. The historicity test involves comparing the simulation values obtained by running the model with the actual values and analyzing the degree of deviation. Its the most reliable test, the simulation values obtained by running the model and the actual values collected are shown in Table 1. In this paper, the correlation test is used, and correlation between 0.7 and 0.9 represents strong correlation, and between 0.9 and 1 represents very strong correlation. The correlation between the actual values of the strength of Chinese national community consciousness and the simulated values of the model is calculated to be 0.9926, which is greater than 0.9, indicating that the SD model based on RIT constructed in this paper has an excellent fitting effect and the model is valid.

In order to further explore the system dynamic relationship between the college financial support policy and the strengthening of the Chinese national community consciousness, this study takes the students of college B as the experimental objects of the model simulation, and sets the initial time as 2012 and the end time as 2022, with a time step of 1 year, to carry out the simulation simulation. In order to quantitatively analyze the dynamic change of the system, the initial value of each state variable needs to be determined, the initial value of the economic support policy of the university is set as 224600.00, and the value guidance policy of the university is set as 458627.00.At the same time, it is necessary to determine the influence coefficients of each auxiliary variable to construct the interaction relationship between the variables, the specific formula is as follows:
Chinese national community consciousness intensity = INTEG (Chinese national community consciousness intensity increment, Chinese national community consciousness intensity initial value). Chinese national community consciousness intensity increment = 0.251*College financial aid policy + 0.424*School completion + 0.097*Chinese national identity. Incremental intensity of Chinese national community consciousness = 0.251*College financial aid policy + 0.424*School completion + 0.152*Chinese national sense of belonging.
Substitute the relevant initial values, functions and other parameters into the model, adjust the parameters of the relevant variables in the model according to the different scenarios set up in advance, carry out the scenario simulation, compare the changes in the intensity of the students’ sense of the Chinese national community in different scenarios, and analyze the impact of the university financial aid policy on the intensity of the Chinese national community.
The initial state of the system model is shown in Figure 7. Among them, (a) ~ (e) represent the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness, college financial aid policy, students’ academic completion, Chinese national sense of belonging and Chinese national identity, respectively.

As can be seen from Figure 7, the operational results of Chinese national community consciousness intensity demonstrate the dynamic trend of students’ Chinese national community consciousness intensity with the input of college financial aid policies over a systematic operational cycle, with the horizontal coordinate indicating the time (year) and the vertical coordinate indicating the value of each variable. During the period of 2012-2022 shown in the data sample, there are fluctuations in the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness, with an overall upward trend from 2012-2018, a downward trend after 2018, and then an upward trend after 2021. There are two possible reasons for this fluctuation: first, students can enjoy the incentives of multiple college financial aid policies at the same time, so the college financial aid policies enjoyed by students in each year are superpositional, and the impact on the intensity of the Chinese national community consciousness is the result of the accumulation of multiple policies. Secondly, college financial aid policies generally have different life cycles, not only in a single year, there may be a concentration of policies in effect or expiration within a specific period of time, resulting in fluctuations in the curve of the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness.
Comparing the results of the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness with those of college financial aid policies, students’ academic completion, Chinese sense of belonging to the Chinese nation, and Chinese sense of identity, the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness shows the same trend of change as the latter four respectively. When college financial aid policies, students’ academic completion, Chinese sense of belonging and Chinese sense of identity show a significant upward trend, the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness also continues to rise sharply, which further proves the positive influence of college financial aid policies, students’ academic completion, Chinese sense of belonging and Chinese sense of identity on the intensity of students’ Chinese national community consciousness.
In order to test the influence of college financial aid policy on the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness, the value of college financial aid policy is expanded by 1, 2 and 3 times for simulation, and the comparison of simulation results in different contexts is shown in Figure 8. Where (a)~(d) represent the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness, students’ academic completion, Chinese national sense of belonging and Chinese national identity, respectively. current is the initial state of the system, current1, current2 and current3 correspond to three different contexts, the horizontal coordinate represents the time (year), and the vertical coordinate represents the variables’ values. On the whole, when changing the variable of college financial aid policy, the curves of the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness in each year did not move in parallel, but were related to the baseline value before the change, and the larger the baseline value was, the larger the change in the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness was after the multiplication. In addition, with the upward fluctuation of the college financial aid policy variables, the consequent displacement of students’ academic completion, Chinese national sense of belonging, and Chinese national sense of identity varied in size.With the increase of the upward fluctuation, the sense of belonging to the Chinese nation and the sense of Chinese national identity are more apparent than with the increase of students’ academic completion.

Comparison of simulation results in different scenarios
Therefore, when colleges and universities increase the strength of their financial aid policy support for students, the impact on the intensity of students’ sense of Chinese national community is affected by the baseline value of the college financial aid policy variables, and as the college financial aid policy variables increase, the intensity of the sense of Chinese national community shows a more pronounced strengthening. At the same time, its impact on students’ sense of belonging to and identification with the Chinese nation is greater than that of their academic completion.
This paper proposes a system dynamics (SD) model creation method based on the flow rate basic entry tree (RIT), and realizes the system dynamics analysis between college financial aid policy and the strengthening of Chinese national community consciousness by constructing the SD model.
There are three main mechanisms for the influence of college financial aid policies on the Chinese national community’s consciousness. First, the direct financial support of colleges and universities to students helps students to complete their studies and enhances their sense of identity and belonging to the Chinese nation, which in turn strengthens the sense of Chinese national community. Secondly, the value guidance of colleges and universities to students can realize the ideological and political education of students, help students set up correct three views, and realize the strengthening of students’ sense of Chinese national community. Thirdly, under the effective college financial aid policy, students strengthen the sense of Chinese national community by completing their studies, which promotes the achievement of college financial aid goals and provides financial aid feedback, which in turn promotes the growth of the total amount of college financial aid, forming a virtuous circle.
The correlation of the constructed model on the actual evolution process of college financial aid policy to promote the strengthening of Chinese national community consciousness reaches 0.9926, which is greater than 0.9, indicating that the model fit is excellent and the model is valid.
The running results of the strength of Chinese national community consciousness and the college financial aid policy, students’ academic completion, Chinese national sense of belonging and Chinese national sense of identity show the same trend of change on the whole. When the college financial aid policy, students’ academic completion, Chinese national sense of belonging and Chinese national sense of identity show a significant upward trend, the intensity of Chinese national community consciousness also continues to rise sharply. With the increase in college financial aid policy variables, the displacement of students’ academic completion, Chinese sense of belonging, and Chinese sense of national identity varied in size.As the upward movement increases, the sense of belonging to the Chinese nation and the sense of Chinese national identity increase more significantly than the students’ academic completion. This proves that college financial aid policies have a significant positive impact on the sense of Chinese national community, and that college financial aid policies have a greater impact on students’ sense of belonging to the Chinese nation and sense of Chinese national identity than students’ academic completion.
