Research on the Reform of English Teaching Mode of Civil Engineering Majors Based on ESP Theory in the Context of New Liberal Arts

As the changes in the global governance system and international order are accelerating, the country needs to cultivate a large number of high-level composite professionals who are adapted to the new global pattern and well versed in international rules. The proposal of new liberal arts provides support for the construction of characteristic higher education talents, and in order to comprehensively improve the quality of English talents in civil engineering, this study analyzes in depth the cultivation objectives of talents in the context of new liberal arts. Based on the needs of civil engineering, combined with ESP theory to cultivate composite talents, a civil engineering corpus is constructed, and finally an English teaching mode for civil engineering majors based on ESP theory is proposed. In order to verify the effectiveness of the teaching mode reform in this paper, this paper utilizes the hierarchical analysis method to establish the teaching achievement assessment index system, and combines the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation to carry out empirical analysis. The scores of the third-level indicators based on the teaching reform model of this paper are all above 85 points, and the rating results are excellent. The scores of the secondary indicators are 93.15, 88.45, 90.92, 91.17, 90.12 and 91.36, and they are improved by 3.03, 8.13, 5.48, 9.02, 6.68 and 11.2 compared with the traditional model in each dimension. At the same time, the overall comprehensive score of this paper’s teaching mode is as high as 90.873, which indicates that this paper’s English teaching reform mode for civil engineering majors based on the background of the new liberal arts reaches an excellent level, provides effective teaching methods for the cultivation of English talents in civil engineering under the background of the new liberal arts, and provides practical guidance for further exploring the feasible and operative path of talent cultivation and teaching reform.
