The rapid development of Internet technology and the continuous broadening of the application fields of big data have had a profound impact on the innovative practice and cultural dissemination of opera and dance. This paper analyzes the development of opera dance in northern Hunan from “oral communication” to “network communication”. Combined with the urgent local demand for cultural digital construction, a digital museum focusing on theater and dance in northern Hunan was developed using virtual reality technology. The demand score for the development of digital technology in theater and dance at the Xiangbei theater and dance cultural management department is 4.034, which is a high performance of the degree of demand. In the feasibility analysis of digital museums, “effectiveness”, “ease of use” and “satisfaction” all have a high degree of recognition, and “effectiveness” has the highest recognition degree of 6.03. The subjects paid more attention to the information about opera culture and navigation in the digital museum interface, and had a stronger sense of immersion in the virtual experience of the opera and dance content. The results of the user satisfaction rate statistics show that the user satisfaction rate of the digital museum design elements designed in this paper is distributed between 71% and 89%.
