Fractal geometry is a discipline of geometry that takes irregular geometric forms as its object of study. In contrast to traditional geometry, where the objects of study are integer dimensions, such as zero-dimensional points, one-dimensional lines, two-dimensional surfaces, three-dimensional cubes and even four-dimensional space-time [1-3]. There are several types of fractals, which can be defined based on the exact self-similarity, semi-self-similarity and statistical self-similarity exhibited by the whole. Although a fractal is a mathematical structure, they can also be found in nature, which has led them to be categorized as works of art, with applications in fields such as medicine and technical analysis [4-7].
Visual communication design and advertising art are two inseparable concepts, in which visual communication design is one of the core of advertising art. It is a kind of design art that conveys information and arouses people’s emotional resonance by means of visual images, words, colors and other means [8-10]. The art of advertising is to use the means of visual communication design, through the form of conveying advertising information, so that the goods get better marketing effect. Visual communication design has strong artistic characteristics, of which creativity is the most crucial [11-13]. Designers need to inject imagination and creativity as much as possible under the premise of guaranteeing the transmission of information, so as to make the works more vital and emotional. With the continuous innovation of science and technology, visual communication design and advertising art have become more and more mature [14-16]. The digital platform allows image processing, color mixing, font layout and so on to get more space for development. At present, visual communication design and advertising art, as an important means of commercial marketing, will continue to develop and grow, providing more enterprises with effective brand promotion and product sales solutions [17-20].
This paper analyzes the differences between fractal geometry and traditional Euclidean geometry and highlights the characteristic advantages of analytical geometry. It shows that fractal geometry can generate fractal graphics with the help of computer technology, and there are artistic features of fractal graphics in their structure and vision. Combined with the visual design of advertisements, with the aid of Markov chain to assist in generating fractal graphics, and using the rules of graphic color assignment in advertising art design, an advertising art design based on fractal geometry is designed. A questionnaire survey is used to analyze the overall visual communication effect, cognition, and favorability of fractal geometric pattern + color matching of the advertisement audience. Significant differences tests were conducted for audiences of different genders.
Geometry based on fractal theory is called fractal geometry, which is quite different from traditional Euclidean geometry. Euclidean geometry takes regular geometric shapes as its object of study, and its basic constituent elements are points, lines, and surfaces. Fractal objects do not have the basic elements, and their essence is a geometric language, which is described by a collection of algorithms and mathematical programs based on a number of geometric forms described with the help of computer technology. Since fractal geometry studies non-linear irregular shapes as objects of study, the shapes studied are far more complex than Euclidean geometry. On the other hand, most of the objects in nature cannot be divided into a number of regular geometrical basic elements, so fractal geometry has significant advantages in describing nature.
Fractal geometry has two important features.
First, the structure is fine. Even at very small scales, fractal geometry still has more complex details. Software capable of controlling the number of fractal iterations can meet the requirement for detail at any small scale. This makes fractal geometry consistent with the idea of infinite divisibility of matter in nature, i.e., large structures contain small structures, and small structures contain even smaller structures.
Second, self-similarity. In an approximate or statistical sense, there is a certain similarity between the whole and the parts of fractal geometry. Fractal geometry is essentially the result of a refinement of the details, where the individual details are both dispersed and complete, breaking down the barrier between the whole of the figure and the parts, allowing the figure to replicate the natural aesthetics through the fractal formula.
By adjusting the parameters in the formula, the fractal geometry can be easily adjusted to achieve the desired pattern. Before the popularization of computer technology, these complex graphics could only be achieved by designers who consume a lot of time and energy to design, and their fineness is far from that of fractal geometry.
Traditional pattern design requires the designer to sketch out the conceptual pattern and convert it into a visual image. Each line and turn of the pattern depends on the designer’s personal professionalism and aesthetic preference. Moreover, the modification and adjustment of the pattern is more limited, and often the finished product will not be modified. On the other hand, fractal geometry only requires the designer to conceptualize the general shape and style and then enter the formula and parameters, which can easily generate fractal geometry. Because of the characteristics of not knowing what will be designed according to the formula, making fractal geometry has a stronger charm, which is also the key to fractal geometry is different from the traditional art design methods.
Fractal graphics is created using computer technology to create graphics that have mathematical connotations and artistic characteristics, based on the principles of fractal geometry.
In terms of the structure of the graph, fractal graphs are characterized by the following three main aspects.
The first is self-similarity, which means that the fractal graph will have some similarity with the whole when it is localized and enlarged.
The second is the infinite fineness of the graphic structure, that is, any part of the fractal graphic will be enlarged, it will be found that the localization of the graphic contains a more minute similar structure, and the division of this structure is theoretically infinite.
Third, irregularity, or fractal graphics, do not have the European style geometric figures with a regular, smooth form, but with an irregular structure to achieve a lifelike description of natural objects.
Based on the special structure of fractal graphics, it inevitably leads to the following artistic characteristics in visualization.
First, the dynamic balance of fractal graphics. Generally speaking, traditional graphics aim for a static balance. But each element in the fractal graphic is not an isolated existence, and needs an inner momentum to maintain. If any one of the elements changes, it will affect the overall structure of the graphic itself, thus creating an almost completely different graphic. Therefore, in the face of fractal graphics, viewers can feel a kind of endless, infinite multiplicity of dynamic changes.
Second, the brilliant colors. As fractal graphics is based on computer technology to generate, which each point of the color is generated by the computer through the iterative function calculation. At the same time, fractal graphics with randomness and variability, its color is also more rich in variability and diversity, can create an unexpected color art effect.
Since fractal graphs are generated by computers through iterative function calculations, they have obvious numerical characteristics. Specifically, the digital nature is manifested in the following aspects.
First, the randomness of the generation process of fractal graphics is the most obvious difference between other art forms.
The second advantage of fractal graphics is that they can be infinitely subdivided and developed, provided that the computer has enough computing power and storage space.
Advertising is a commercial, artistic, and cultural phenomenon that aims to create precise communication.Advertising design is a complex system involving multiple fields and disciplines, and in the course of its development, it creates new forms and contents.Concretizing representations to create specific meanings and subjective colors. The degree to which the intention reflects the creator of the objective is different from the intention that triggers the feelings of the audience. [21-23].
In the process of advertising art design, abstract and figurative art forms can be comprehensively combined. In the process of advertising design can be the integration of dots, lines and surfaces, to promote the audience to produce strong perceptual feelings. This factor is a key factor in the success or failure of creativity. The impact of relatively effective visual intensity can stimulate the audience’s senses and attract attention and interest.Texture is due to the different materials and surface organization and structure of different situations. In general, texture refers to roughness, smoothness, and softness. This is the ability to touch different textures, which can be shown through the depiction of the situation.
Advertising visual design mainly plays a specific role in publicity through visual communication. Understanding the good visual effect can attract people’s attention in certain situations.Vision is a positive organ, with visual senses that can form perceptual interaction at the perception level to form a positive role and choice.
Text in advertising needs to reflect the scale. Text is one of the tools for information exchange and promotes psychological and emotional aspects of the formation of a comprehensive communication role.
In the process of graphic design in advertising, the main thing is to accurately convey information, that is to say, to convey the real attributes of the goods, as well as all the information about the service. The most important thing in modern advertising is to emphasize the innovation of graphics. In the process of visual communication of advertisements, it is necessary to highlight the color factor and combine functional risks, applicability, and aesthetics in a comprehensive manner.
Iterated function systems (IFS) arise from the combination of computer graphics, affine geometry, and fractal theory, which is an important branch of fractal theory. It is also one of the most vital and promising areas of application in fractal images.
Affine transformation is an essential component of geometric transformation in computer graphics, and IFS theory is founded on it, which involves rotating the figure around the origin, scaling up and down, and translating. Similarity transformation and affine transformation are two important concepts of IFS. The geometric properties of affine transformations are:
I: The inverse of an affine transformation is still an affine transformation. II: The affine transformation is a linear transformation; a straight line segment remains a straight line segment after affine transformation and keeps the constant ratio relationship of the points on the segment unchanged. III: Two parallel lines remain parallel after affine transformation. Therefore, a parallelogram generally becomes another parallelogram after affine transformation. IV: After affine transformation of any plane figure, its area will change to ( Where
The key to generate fractal graphs using the IFS method is to find out the corresponding IFS codes, for those iterations of regular graphs, their obvious geometric relations can be utilized to determine the corresponding IFS codes. However, for those graphs with irregular boundaries, the collage method can be used to approximate the target graph.
There are two methods for determining the general IFS codes, the interactive determination method and the computational determination method. The following collage of its target graph with four subgraphs results in an affine transformation as shown in the following equation. I.e:
At this point the 4 sub-maps were 1/4, 1/5, 1/4, and 1/2 sized replicas of the target maple map. The affine transformation parameters of each sub-map are then adjusted interactively on the screen in sequence and essentially cover the target map. There can be overlap between subgraphs, but the overlap should be kept as small as possible in order to minimize the amount of repetitive computation so that the IFS code for the graph can be obtained.
The method of solving the system of linear equations by three-point correspondence is used to find the affine transform coefficients and obtain the system of equations:
The values of
The attraction of the IFS method is that it is the “inverse problem” of fractal iterative generation, according to the splicing theorem, for a given image, to find its IFS code, you can greatly compress the information.

The reason for the limited ability to describe the results produced under a deterministic state system is that with a limited number of state initial values and state transfer functions, they can only be described by strict lines, or straight line segments, or a small number of curved segments with defined paths. A small number of lines can appear to have a rigid outline, or even a graph that is difficult to describe. The fractal geometry under the nondeterministic state system generated using Markov chains can theoretically have an infinite number of initial values, and it continues the iterative operation by using the state values at any one time node as the initial values, which makes up for the disadvantage of the limited amount of data that can be used for the graphs generated under the deterministic state system.
Patterns with the same structure may show different effects depending on the method of color assignment. These color assignment methods are often expressed in mathematical formulas, which are called color assignment rules. There are many kinds of color assignment rules, such as two-color, theme, layering, gradient, fusion, etc. Among them, two-color, theme, and layering rules already exist in fractal projects.
1) The two-color rule means that the pattern contains only the background color and the main pattern color, and the main pattern is a single color. This rule has been covered earlier and only the rule expression is given here:
Among them, Double Color represents the two-color rule, SetA represents the parameter set, Bg Color represents the background color, and Fore Color represents the body color of the pattern.
2) Theme rule is to specify several colors, and the colors are combined with each other by certain rules, so that the pattern is mainly presented in these colors. The layered rule is to add parameters that regulate the speed of color change, so that the color changes of the pattern are more soothing and presented in steps.
Gradation is an important stylistic beauty rule in aesthetics, and its counterpart is mutation.Visual factors such as shape, size, position, object, and color can all create gradients. In color, gradient patterns show beauty with ample layers. The formula for the composition of transition rules is:
Among them, Direction is the direction of color change, which can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
3) Fusion rule is similar to the Boolean rule, but it focuses on color, unlike the Boolean rule that focuses on appearance.
The fusion rule also requires two sets of pattern parameters, Set A and Set B. Let the color of Set A at the current point (
Fusion patterns contain shadows of both Set A and Set B and are a novel class of fractal expansion patterns. It is also noted that fusion rules are recursive.
4) The rules are all independent, but a single rule alone does not give rise to a specific fractal expansion pattern. Any fractal pattern is a combination of algorithmic rules, layout rules and color assignment rules. Thus the representation of the combination of rules is given:
Where Com Rule denotes the combination of rules.Arithmetic Rules denotes the set of algorithmic rules, Layout Rules denotes the set of layout rules and Color Rules denotes the set of rules.
Using compound iterative algorithmic rules, symmetric layout rules, and gradient color assignment rules, we can get. Where
The collected data were statistically analyzed, and the 320 valid questionnaires were firstly tested for reliability with SPSS software, and were adopted only after meeting the basic credibility. Then the visual communication effect of advertising art design based on fractal geometry generation algorithm was analyzed from four aspects: cognitive level effect, psychological, attitude level effect, action level effect and indirect communication effect respectively.
The questionnaire for this study was measured on a five-point Likert scale. The respondents only need to answer the degree of agreement non-“always agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree” for each question item. In this paper, scores are assigned based on the respondents’ answers, with 5 points for strongly agree, 4 points for agree, 3 points for neutral, 2 points for disagree, and 1 point for strongly disagree. The score of the final questionnaire calculates the score of the visual communication effect of advertising art design based on fractal geometry generation algorithm.
This paper investigates the visual communication effects of advertising art and design, which are categorised into the following areas. Cognitive level effects (impression of experiencing the scene, impression of fractal geometry, memory of the product and its performance). Psychological and attitudinal level effect analysis (degree of attraction, degree of understanding, degree of conviction, degree of identification). Action level effects (searching for relevant information, willingness to buy, and impulse to buy). Indirect communication effects (likelihood of sharing, likelihood of following, likelihood of recommending). Fractal geometry design effects (immersion, immersion, advertising visual enhancement). The visual communication effects of advertisements based on fractal geometry are shown in Table 1.

The results of the statistical analysis of the Like value for the overall design effect of the advertisement are shown in Figure 2, where * represents the attribute related to the background color of the advertisement. For example, hue * refers to the hue of the advertisement.

The overall design effect of the advertising overall design results
Pattern color (brightness, purity, hue), size, row density, tilt angle and background color (brightness, purity, hue) will affect the consumer’s preference for the overall design effect of the advertisement pattern to different degrees. Among them, pattern hue, fabric base color hue, size, and layout density will significantly affect consumers’ acceptance of the overall effect of the advertisement. Pattern brightness and purity will slightly affect consumers’ acceptance of the overall design effect of the advertisement, while tilt angle has little effect on it.
Meanwhile, comparing the Like values of different genders on the degree of preference for each factor, it can be found that for women, pattern color (hue, lightness, purity) and background color (hue, lightness, purity) are the key factors affecting women’s preference for the overall pattern design effect of advertisements. Female consumers place more importance on the hue (0.876+0.787) and size (0.825+0.712) of the advertisement art design. On the contrary, male students were relatively more concerned about the size of the pattern, the tightness of the arrangement, and the angle of inclination. This indicates that there are differences in the concerns of different genders regarding pattern design. Designers should take into account the aesthetic preferences of different genders’ clothing advertisements when designing patterns to meet the target customers. In addition, it was also found that the standard deviation of female subjects’ preferences was relatively large compared with that of male subjects, which indicates that if there are large differences among female subjects, they are more likely to be influenced by individual factors. This also reveals, to some extent, the reason for the greater richness in the types, shapes, and colors of advertisement patterns for female products.
The statistics of like values of all subjects’ preferences for the overall design of the advertisement art are shown in Table 4. There is a significant difference between male and female consumers in the design of advertisement art based on fractal geometric composition on hue, size, alignment density, tilt angle, and advertisement background color (hue, lightness, and purity), p<0.05.
